Tottenham face West Ham competition in Timothy Castagne chase
According to reputed journalist Nicolo Schira (h/t Football.london), Tottenham are set to face competition from local rivals West Ham United in the race to sign Atalanta defender Timothy Castagne.
The 24-year-old has grown into a key player for Atalanta since joining the club from Belgian outfit Genk in 2017. Till date, he has made 82 appearances for the Serie A side, scoring eight goals and assisting nine more.
Castagne has featured in 19 matches across all competitions during the 2019/20 campaign. He has scored and assisted two goals apiece. With his contract expiring in a year, there have been speculations over his future at the club, with Tottenham taking an interest in his situation.
The Serie A star recently claimed that he is open to a summer move to the Premier League, which was seen as a boost in Tottenham’s pursuit of him. However, as per the latest report, West Ham United have also thrown their hat in the ring to secure the signing of the Belgian.
Tottenham are in urgent need of reinforcements at right-back. Having sold Kieran Trippier last summer, the club did not sign anyone to replace the Englishman. In addition, Kyle Walker-Peters was loaned out to Southampton in January. This left the club with just Serge Aurier as an option in the right-back slot.
The Ivorian has hardly inspired confidence with his performances. With him breaking lockdown regulations three times, there are question marks over his attitude as well, casting his future at the club in doubt.
