Southampton will listen to offers for Tottenham target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Speaking on BBC Solent Sport (h/t Football.london), Southampton chief executive Martin Semmens has hinted that the club will listen to offers for Tottenham target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the summer transfer window.
Hojbjerg has been one of Southampton’s better performers this season. The Dane has been critical to their revival after a poor start to the season. However, his future at the club has been shrouded with uncertainty as he has just one year left on his current contract with the club.
Tottenham have emerged as a potential suitor for Hojbjerg, with manager Jose Mourinho keen on adding another defensive midfielder to the ranks. And now, Spurs have been handed a boost in the pursuit of the former Bayern Munich man, with CEO Martin Semmens claiming that they will let him go should the right after come along. “If there’s a club out there that can win the Champions League and they think Pierre can improve their team, if they can pay for him then in the end we have to let him go.”
This comes only a week after Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl claimed that the club would not want to lose the club captain on a free transfer when his contract expires next year. (h/t Football.london)
“I think we should avoid letting players go without a transfer fee. It’s not good to go into the last year of your contract – especially as a young player with a big future. This is not the ideal situation, but we have opportunities to handle it and we will have talks with other players and find a decision.”
