Tottenham star Juan Foyth tipped to join Leeds United
According to a report from Argentine outlet El Dia (h/t Leeds Live), Tottenham defender Juan Foyth is primed to leave the club this summer, with Championship outfit Leeds United likely to be his next destination.
Foyth joined Tottenham as a highly-rated youngster back in 2017. But the Argentine has failed to establish himself in the first-team so far. Till date, the 22-year-old has made a paltry 32 appearances, scoring a solitary goal in the process.
Foyth has featured just seven times across all competitions in the 2019/20 campaign, with injuries and poor form hampering him. Since Jose Mourinho took over from Mauricio Pochettino, the Argentine has started just one Premier League game. That too, he was subbed off at half-time during that game.
Foyth’s decline has also coincided with the rise of academy ace Japhet Tanganga. The Spurs defender has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under Mourinho, pushing Foyth further down the pecking order.
Given the lack of first-team opportunities currently, an exit seems a very strong possibility, with Foyth’s agent himself hinting as much in a recent interview.
And now, according to the aforementioned report, Leeds United could be the club where Foyth ends up next summer. The reason being cited for such a move is the presence of another Argentine, Marcelo Bielsa, who is the manager of Leeds United.
The report claims that Bielsa will have learnt everything about Foyth from former Spurs boss Pochettinho, who is a good friend of his. And recent rumours of Barcelona taking an interest in him has only spurred the Leeds boss to secure the signing of his compatriot. (h/t Leeds Live)
