Jan Vertonghen and Michel Vorm sign short-term contract extensions with Tottenham
Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen and goalkeeper Michel Vorm have agreed short-term contract extensions till the end of the season, the club confirmed on Monday. (h/t TottenhamHotspur.com)
Both Vertonghen and Vorm would have been out of contract at the end of this month. However, the club has been able to secure the duo’s service until the culmination of the 2019/20 campaign.
This should come as a boost for Jose Mourinho & co. Vertonghen may not have been at his best this season, but the Belgian’s experience at this level is worth its weight in gold.
Given the jam-packed schedule, Mourinho will need to rely on his entire squad for the remaining games and having them extend their deals for a short period is the right move by the club.
“It’s very important of course. That shows their commitment to the club and also to the group. That’s very good news for us because we need everybody until the end,” Mourinho said.
Naturally, the update got a lot of the club’s supporters talking. They flocked to Twitter to express their thoughts on the move by the club. And here we bring you some of the reactions from the fans on the contract extensions.

Both men are spurs through and through and should be respected by the fans even though both are passed their best. Wonder if they’ll have some sort of a role at the club afterwards or will they just leave?

This is great but I’m sad Jan will play his last game for us without fans there. I hope he’ll get a testimonial – he deserves one!#COYS
