Serge Aurier refused to move to Wolves as part of the Matt Doherty deal
According to the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur star Serge Aurier refused to move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The move would have been part of the Matt Doherty transfer. The 28-year-old signed for Spurs earlier today. Tottenham were keen to see the back of the Ivorian who they value at £20m. (h/t Daily Star)
Their hopes were dashed when Aurier rejected the chance to make the switch to the Molineux. He is instead keen to move out of England and join a European club having played for PSG in the past. (h/t Daily Star)
Aurier favours a move to AC Milan. Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen are also in the fray for his signature. (h/t Daily Star)
The 27-year-old made 42 appearances for Spurs in all competitions last season. He is an enigmatic player who divides opinion. An excellent player who contributes to the attack, his defensive prowess is more than suspect.
By bringing in Doherty, Spurs have actually got themselves an upgrade at right-back. The Republic of Ireland international is a dependable player who is equally proficient going forward and at the back.
While Doherty’s future lies at Tottenham, that of Aurier is unclear. The Ivorian had refused to sign an extension at the club.
According to the report, now that Doherty has signed, Aurier can be considered surplus to needs. He has two years left on his £70,000-a-week deal at Spurs.
