Talks between Milan and Tottenham over Serge Aurier stall
According to Sky Sports (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a setback in their attempts to offload Serge Aurier, as talks with AC Milan have hit a brick wall over the transfer fee.
The 27-year-old Aurier has been with Tottenham for three years now, having signed from PSG. After having largely played second-fiddle to Kieran Trippier in his first two years at the club, the Ivory Coast international became a regular this past season.
Aurier went on to rack up 42 appearances over the course of the season, and while he impressed going forward, he was a major liability at the back. Indeed, some of his mistakes cost the team dearly.
With the club signing Matt Doherty for the right-back slot, Aurier’s future at the club has become a subject of speculation. And, talks over a transfer to Serie A heavyweights AC Milan had been going on for a while now.
However, as per the latest update, negotiations between the two clubs have broken down as they have been unable to come to an agreement over the transfer fee for Aurier. (h/t Football.london)
Aurier is understood to be keen on joining Milan as well. However, the Rossoneri’s opening bid of £13m is well below Tottenham’s valuation of the player, leading to a breakdown of talks. (h/t Football.london)

Three players have come into the club this summer. But with more incomings needed, Tottenham need to offload some of the deadwood from the squad to generate funds. In addition, getting Aurier’s £70,000-a-week salary off the books would also free up space on the wage bill.
There has been interest from Bayer Leverkusen in the Ivorian. So, it remains to be seen if the club is able to offload Aurier before the transfer window closes.
