Tottenham Hotspur turn down chance to sign Ivan Perisic
According to the Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur have passed on an opportunity to sign Ivan Perisic.
The Croatian star played a key role as Bayern Munich won their sixth Champions League/European Cup title last month.
The 31-year-old is a versatile attacker capable of playing a variety of attacking roles. His ability to do so would have given Jose Mourinho a number of options in attack.
On loan from Inter Milan, Perisic made 35 appearances for Die Roten last season. During this time he plundered in eight goals while assisting 10 more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Jose Mourinho has been a long term admirer of Perisic. He was heavily linked with a move for the Croatian during his time at Manchester United. However, the club has turned down the chance to sign the winger. (h/t Football.london)
According to the report, a move for the Croatian would have seen Spurs star Tanguy Ndombelee move to Inter Milan. The Frenchman is Spurs’s record signing but has failed to reach the expected heights since signing for us last summer.
Now back at Inter, Perisic could once again be on the move this summer. Although he is an experienced attacker with an eye for goal, at 31, he is unlikely to be a long-term prospect.
Ndombele on the other hand has all it takes to become a midfield juggernaut, assuming he can turn his fortunes around. Still just 23, the midfielder has his best years ahead of him. Spurs should not give up on him just yet.
