Son Heung-min set to miss Chelsea, Manchester United matches due to injury
According to a report from Reuters, Tottenham star Son Heung-min is set to be ruled out of key fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester United this week due to an injury.
The 28-year-old South Korean international has made a blistering start to the new season. Son plundered four goals against Southampton in the Premier League a week ago. He followed it up with a goal and a brace of assists against KF Shkendija in the Europa League last week.
He was in top form against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon and struck the post twice. However, he had to be withdrawn at half-time with Jose Mourinho confirming that it was because of a hamstring injury. (h/t The Sun)
“It’s an injury. We’ll have him out for a while. It’s his hamstring.”
And now, the report from Reuters is claiming that the 27-year-old will miss a string of key matches for the club.
It was always unlikely that Son would be fit for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup fourth round clash against Chelsea. However, he is now likely to miss out the UEFA Europa League qualifying playoffs against Maccabi Haifa as well as the huge game against Manchester United in the Premier League at the weekend. Given how brilliant Son had been early in the season, his absence will be a huge blow. More so, considering the importance of the fixtures lined up this week.
With Gareth Bale also unlikely to return before the international break next month, Mourinho will have a selection headache in the attacking third.
