West Brom in talks to sign Tottenham target Habib Diallo

According to The Sun (h/t Birmingham Mail), Tottenham Hotspur will face competition from West Bromwich Albion in the race to sign FC Metz striker Habib Diallo.

The 25-year-old has been on the radars of Tottenham for quite some time now, as Jose Mourinho continues to scour the market for a backup striker for Harry Kane. In fact, it has been claimed that the striker himself is keen on making the switch to the North London outfit.

However, it now seems like West Bromwich Albion have made a swoop to snap up the striker before the transfer deadline day closes. As per the report, the Baggies are already in talks with Metz over the possibility of signing the Senegalese international.

Metz are open to the possibility of leaving Diallo on loan for the season, provided there is a significant fee involved. The 25-year-old’s move would be made permanent next summer for a fee of £20m. (h/t Birmingham Mail)

Tottenham’s need of a new striker cannot be overstressed. Going into the season with just Harry Kane as the only option upfront would be suicidal. With Son Heung-min also picking up an injury, the need has only increased.

Diallo may not be the most well-known name, but the Senegalese striker has had a good couple of seasons. The 25-year-old helped Metz earn promotion in 2018/19, and performed well in Ligue 1 last term as well. But, with West Brom in talks to sign him, Spurs may have to ramp up their pursuit or look elsewhere.

With less than a week left for the transfer window to close, Jose Mourinho & co. need to act swiftly in the market. The transfer window has been a good one for Spurs up until this point. However, not signing a striker would be a major blow.
