AC Milan enter talks with Chelsea for Tottenham target Antonio Rudiger

According to Sky Sports, Serie A heavyweights AC Milan have entered into negotiations with Chelsea for the signing of defender Antonio Rudiger, who is a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

It has been a dream transfer window for Tottenham so far with the club leaving no stones unturned in strengthening the squad in spite of financial troubles due to the pandemic. However, the business is not all wrapped up with Jose Mourinho still on the lookout for a new defender.

While Milan Skriniar has been the Lilywhites’ priority transfer target, the club has been eyeing a loan swoop for Rudiger as a potential Plan B should the Skriniar deal fail to materialise.

Last week, a report from The Athletic claimed that Rudiger, too, was keen on securing a loan move to Tottenham Hotspur. However, there is apprehension from Chelsea’s part to let the move happen, given the relationship between the two clubs have soured in years, while they also don’t want to strengthen a direct rival.

And now, Milan have entered the picture to sign the German international, with the Rossoneri already engaging in talks with the Blues over a potential loan deal.

An experienced defender with proven Premier League pedigree, Rudiger would have been a handy addition to the Tottenham defence as the club looks to compete on four fronts this season.

However, Chelsea’s reluctance to sanction a move to Tottenham, coupled with Milan’s entry into the race could put an end to any hopes of Spurs landing the German international.

With the transfer deadline day upon us, it remains to be seen if there are any final incomings at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
