Hugo Lloris next in line to be offered new Tottenham Hotspur contract
According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur are set to offer skipper and veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris a new contract.
Signed from Lyon in 2012, Lloris has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the league. The 33-year-old has proven himself to be a match-winner time and time again.
In his eight years at Spurs, Lloris has made 332 appearances while keeping 112 clean sheets. Despite his advanced age, it would appear that the club still retains faith in him.
Tottenham are currently in talks to extend the stay of star attacker Son Heung-Min. The South Korean has been in scintillating form this season and is close to agreeing on fresh terms with the club.
Once that is in the bag, extending Lloris’s stay is Tottenham’s next priority. Lloris has two years left on his current contract at the club.
While Lloris looks set to stay on, it cannot be denied that he has regressed in recent years. While it remains to be seen if he will remain the first choice through his stay, having him mentor his replacement would be a smart thing to do.
A number of Tottenham’s first-team players are secured for the long term. Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld recently signed new contracts while many others are tied down for the long-term.

When fit, Lloris is one of the first names of the teamsheet. Securing his future makes sense for the immediate future. We will however also need to secure a succession plan to replace him when the time comes.
