Team News: Tottenham could be without four first-team stars for Manchester City clash
According to Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho could be without four first-team players in the weekend’s crunch clash against Manchester City.
The matchup against Pep Guardiola’s side will be Mourinho’s 51st game in charge of the club since taking over a year ago. In retrospect, it is a chance to showcase how far we have come under his tutelage.
He will, however, have to do so without the likes of Matt Doherty, Erik Lamela, Japhet Tanganga, and potentially even Steven Bergwijn.
Doherty will have to sit out for a number of our upcoming fixtures after having tested positive for coronavirus while on international duty. The right-back will now need to self isolate and is sure to miss the clash against City. Doherty is also in line to miss the Europa League fixture against Ludogorets Razgrad and potentially even next weekend’s clash against Chelsea.
Lamela has been suffering from a foot problem. The winger was seen without his protective boot a week ago. He appears to be improving but the weekend’s clash may have come a tad sooner for him to feature in.
The same can be said for Bergwijn. The Dutch star was judged to be unfit by the Netherlands medical team on Monday. He played no part in their international fixtures and returned to the club. He too is a major doubt for this weekend.
It is not all bad news as Gareth Bale and Giovani Lo Celso enjoyed proper run-outs with their national teams. Both players are available for the weekend and could feature.
Doherty’s absence means Serge Aurier could make a return to the starting line-up. The Ivorian was nursing a ‘little’ injury’ of late but now looks set to step into the first team.

Japhet Tanganga is yet another player who will miss out this weekend. The youngster is still recovering from his injuries and is not in contention to feature this weekend.
The clash against City will be a stern matchup between two sides who look to be competing for the title. It could very give us a proper appraisal of where we stand at this moment in time.
