Jose Mourinho drops hints over Tottenham team selection for Stoke City clash

As reported by Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has given an inkling about the team he is going to pick for the Carabao Cup clash against Stoke City.

Spurs take on the EFL Championship outfit in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup at bet365 Stadium on Wednesday night. It promises to be a tricky encounter for Mourinho & co. as the Potters haven’t lost their last three games in a row and are seventh in the second division.

In contrast, Tottenham have lost their last two and will be under pressure to deliver the goods against Stoke. Mourinho has often decided to use almost two entirely separate teams for Premier League and the cup competitions. However, he hinted that we could see a mixture of both on Wednesday.

“I think a mixture. I think we need some players who need to play and deserve to play. From the ones that are playing more times, others where we don’t have great options to make changes and have to keep them but I will try to give a little bit of a rest to two or three.”

There is a possibility that one of Harry Kane or Son Heung-min take the field against the Potters, considering that the likes of Gareth Bale, Lucas Moura and Steve Bergwijn haven’t been in the best of forms of late.

However, Giovani Lo Celso could be set for a rest after he came off injured in the 2-0 defeat to Leicester City.

Tottenham defeated Chelsea on penalties in the previous round. Given Mourinho’s history in the competition, are certainly one of the favourites to go all the way.
