Tottenham fans unhappy with Matt Doherty after Leeds sending off
Tottenham Hotspur kicked off the New Year on the right note beating Leeds United 3-0 but it was not the most auspicious of beginnings for Matt Doherty.
Goals from Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Toby Alderweireld were on the scoresheet for Tottenham on Saturday afternoon. Three goals and a clean sheet meant it was the perfect day for us, well, almost perfect. In what was a fine team performance, the sending off Matt Doherty put somewhat of a blemish.
The Republic of Ireland international had endured a difficult outing on Saturday. Having initially picked up a yellow card for a reckless foul on Luke Ayling after the hour-mark, the right-back received his marching orders in stoppage time when he clashed with Pablo Hernandez.
Doherty has struggled to impose himself since arriving at the club this past summer. And his latest performance on Saturday didn’t please the fans much. Here’s how some of the supporters reacted to the right-back’s poor display against the Whites.

Tottenham Hotspur have released Matt Doherty affective immediately following the reaction of Jose Mourinho to the red card incident.

Good performance from everyone today except Doherty. Do we still have his receipt? I’m just playing but the man does need to step up his performances. He’s barely clearing Serge’s disaster-classes from last season.

I never understand why we actually signed Doherty he only works as wb and we barely play a formation that has that

Doherty has made 16 first-team appearances for Tottenham since arriving. He has managed to produce just a solitary assist so far. With both him and Serge Aurier not quite impressing consistently enough, Jose Mourinho has a bit of a selection dilemma for the right-back slot going forward.
