Valencia interested in signing Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks on loan in January
A report by AS (h/t Eurosport) claims that La Liga club Valencia are keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks in the January transfer window.
Valencia have made their interest to sign Winks on loan clear to the club and the player. Winks is also open to a move to Spain.
The 24-year-old midfielder has only made 7 Premier League appearances this season. He knows that he needs more minutes in order to be selected for the England squad at the European Championship in the summer.
In fact, Jose Mourinho revealed that Harry Winks brought up the issue regarding his playing time with him, amongst other players. However, the Portuguese had ruled out a loan exit for the midfielder.
“In relation to Winks on loan in January, no way. He came to me. Not just him, many players come to me”
Apart from Mourinho’s refusal to let the midfielder leave, Valencia could face another obstacle. The club is in a financial predicament due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Amidst this, they might no be able to pay Winks’ wages and Spurs would have to pay a majority of it. (h/t Eurosport)
A useful squad player
It is not a surprise that Winks went up to Mourinho to ask for more playing time. After making 31 appearances in the league last season, he has just had 5 league starts in the 2020/21 campaign. (h/t Transfermarkt)
However, it is understandable why Mourinho does not want the Englishman to leave on loan in January. Spurs are just 4 points off the top of the table.
