Report: Tottenham defender on the verge of sealing transfer to Dutch outfit

Tottenham youngster Marqes Muir set to join AZ Alkmaar

According to Football Insider, as relayed by Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur youngster Marqes Muir is set to seal an exit from the club by next week. The 18-year-old defender is on the verge of completing a transfer to Dutch Eredivisie outfit AZ Alkmaar.

A product of the Tottenham youth academy, Muir is a centre-back who broke in the club’s Under-18s setup in 2019. The 18-year-old went on to feature 16 times for the team last season, racking up an assist in the process. He also represented the Under-19 side in the UEFA Youth League. (h/t Transfermarkt)

In the 2020/21 season, Muir has featured in all but two of the twelve games that the Tottenham Under-18s in the U18 Premier League and once more in the FA Youth Cup. (h/t Transfermarkt)

However, Muir’s current scholarship contract with the North London giants runs out at the end of the season. This has led to an interest in him from two clubs from the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar taking note of his situation.

PSV were hoping to wait till the end of the season to snap him up, once his deal runs out. However, AZ have decided to swoop in now itself and are hoping to secure a transfer for the centre-back. A deal is expected to go through before the end of the next week. (h/t Football.london)
