Galatasaray confirm talks with Benfica over on-loan Tottenham ace Gedson Fernandes

According to the Daily Mail, Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray are in talks with SL Benfica over the signing of Gedson Fernandes, whose loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur is set to be cut short.

The Portuguese midfielder joined Tottenham in January last year on an eighteen-month loan deal from SL Benfica. However, he has never quite been able to make any sort of impression and as a result, has struggled to get any meaningful game time under Jose Mourinho.

In a year at the club, the 22-year-old has made just 14 appearances across all competitions and is yet to score or assist a single goal. In the ongoing campaign, the Portuguese youngster has featured just two times, providing an indication of his standing at the club. (h/t Tra

Manager Jose Mourinho has previously indicated that the midfielder’s loan deal could be terminated prematurely before the end of the January transfer window. Reports earlier this month claimed that Fernandes could be headed to Serie A outfit Torino on loan for the rest of the season after bringing an end to his spell at Tottenham.

However, it now seems like the Portuguese midfielder will not be headed to Italy, but will be securing a move to Turkey as Galatasaray in talks to sign him on loan for the rest of the season. (h/t Daily Mail)

Things certainly haven’t worked out as planned for Fernandes at Tottenham. Bringing an end to his term at the club is the best course of action for all parties involved. Hopefully, the Portuguese gets his career back on track in Turkey.
