Tottenham interested in signing RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate
According to reports in Germany (h/t Football.london), Tottenham are seriously considering making a move for RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate in the summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old started out at the PSG academy and had a spell at FC Sochaux before joining RB Leipzig in the summer of 2017. Since then, Konate has gradually grown into a key member of the Bundesliga side, making 86 appearances so far.
The Frenchman endured a difficult 2019/20 season, spending most of it out on the sidelines. And while he started this campaign a strong note, Konate has once again been hit with injuries, restricting him to just 12 appearances in all competitions. That hasn’t stopped his stock from soaring in Europe, with a number of top clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool interested. Amongst them, Tottenham are said to be keen on snapping up the 21-year-old in the summer as well. (h/t Football.london)
With Toby Alderweireld not getting any younger and the rest of the centre-backs not convincing on a consistent basis, bringing in another centre-back in the summer would be the right move by the Tottenham hierarchy.
And Konate, despite his injury woes, has shown immense promise. And at 21, the Frenchman has further scope for development and improvement. Furthermore, he has a release clause of €40m, which in the current market, could prove to be a steal if he reaches his immense potential.
