Jose Mourinho explains Harry Kane absence in Wolfsberger win

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho went on to explain the absence of Harry Kane in the game against Wolfsberger (h/t The Independent). Kane chose not to play out the fixture so as to not aggravate the recent ankle injury he recovered from.

The Portuguese manager did want to take Kane along with the squad for the round of 32 first leg in the Europa League but Kane decided to stay back and recuperate. Tottenham went on to win the game by 4-1 with goals coming from Gareth Bale, Heung-Min Son, Lucas Moura and Carlos Vinicius.

Mourinho further went on to clear the Kane situation saying that the Englishman is an experienced player and knows his body better. He wants the striker to play every game and also to be with the side during games to produce a good result.

However, with Kane not feeling up to it, the England striker decided to give the last game a miss.

“I wanted to come here with the best team and the players that could give us more opportunities to win the game and get a good result, but he made the decision based on his feelings.

“His feelings were that to play this game could be a risk with the accumulation of minutes and the accumulation of minutes after the injury that he had.”

Nonetheless, Mourinho and his medical team feel that Kane would be ready to play on Sunday against West Ham. This was, however, the second instance in as many weeks that a Spurs player ruled themselves out of a game. It was Gareth Bale who did the same in the Everton game.

Mourinho was pleased with the result against Wolfsberger and the away goals his side managed to score. It would give him the chance to rotate the squad and hand some of the fringe players game time.
