Gareth Southgate vows to use Tottenham ace, Harry Kane carefully with England
According to the Independent, England manager Gareth Southgate has insisted that he will carefully manage the game-time of Tottenham striker Harry Kane in the current international break.
England are set to kick off their FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers later tonight with a game against San Marino at the Wembley Stadium. The Three Lions then face off against Albania on Sunday before rounding things off with a contest versus Poland.
Kane, who is the captain of the England team, hasn’t scored in international football since November 2019. And he would look at the games against minnows like San Marino and Albania as perfect opportunities to get back into the groove and boost his tally of 31 goals for the national team.
Southgate, however, has insisted that he will manage Kane’s game time judiciously even though he loves how his captain wants to play every minute of every game.
“If I allowed Harry to make that decision, he would play every minute. That won’t be happening. But, look, it is brilliant we have a captain who wants to play every minute of every game.
We have got to be mindful he had extra time last Thursday and another high-intensity game last Sunday, so we have got situations with a lot of the players, really, and we have got to make sure we manage the fixture correctly.”

Kane has been in tremendous form at club level this season, having plundered 27 goals across all competitions. Southgate & co. will be hoping that the superstar is able to translate that form to international football as well and end his six-game goalless streak.
