In the latest news from Spanish publication AS, Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with FC Schalke 04 over the potential transfer of American forward Matthew Hoppe.

The 20-year-old Hoppe moved to FC Schalke in the summer of 2019 and is having a breakthrough season at the struggling Bundesliga club. In 16 league appearances so far this term, the striker has managed five goals, alerting clubs across Europe about his potential. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The likes of Barcelona, Valencia, Villarreal have all set their sights on him ahead of the summer transfer window. And in the mix also are Tottenham Hotspur, with the report going as far as claiming that the Lilywhites have already made contact with Schalke over a summer transfer for Hoppe.

Tottenham could be in need of a new striker in the summer transfer window given as Carlos Vinicius is only on loan at the club. The 25-year-old has done fairly well but hasn’t been a regular in the Premier League. So, whether Tottenham bring him in on a permanent basis remains to be seen.

If the club doesn’t sign him, Tottenham will once again be without requisite cover for star striker Harry Kane, thus warranting the addition of another centre-forward in the summer transfer window. And, Hoppe seems to have emerged as a prospective target for Jose Mourinho & co.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Hoppe is a talented youngster with immense potential. However, given the competition for him, any move in the summer transfer window might be difficult. It will be interesting to see whether Spurs do push to sign him or make Vinicius’ transfer permanent before next season.
