Transfer News: Tottenham in talks with Villarreal for Juan Foyth sale

According to news from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with La Liga side Villarreal over a permanent transfer for loanee Juan Foyth.

Foyth, 23, joined Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2017 from Argentine outfit Estudiantes. However, the versatile defender was never quite able to establish himself as a regular at the club under Mauricio Pochettino or Jose Mourinho.

Having fallen well down the pecking order of things under the latter, Foyth was allowed to seal a loan transfer away from Tottenham last summer. And the 23-year-old joined Villarreal, where after a slow start, he has gradually grown into a regular member of the team.

As part of the loan agreement, Villarreal paid a loan fee of £1.3m to Tottenham, while retaining the option of making the transfer permanent at the end of the season for £13m.

In a recent interview, Foyth hinted that he would be open to making a switch to Spain on a permanent basis. (h/ Sport Witness)

“It is a very nice club, but staying is not up to me. The only thing I can do is give everything on the pitch so that the team does well. Here the language has helped me a lot when it comes to integrating into the group.”

Now, Villarreal are also said to be interested in making Foyth’s transfer a permanent one at the end of the season as well. To that end, talks are already underway behind the scenes with Tottenham in order to secure his services on a full-time basis.

Villarreal, it is said, are trying to land him for a lesser transfer fee than the £13m initially agreed upon in the loan deal. Knowing how tough a negotiator Daniel Levy is, that might not be possible though.
