Fans react as Tottenham beat Southampton 2-1 in Ryan Mason’s managerial debut

Tottenham Hotspur ended their three-game winless run as they came back from a goal down to defeat Southampton 2-1 on Wednesday night.

In what was Ryan Mason’s managerial debut after he was handed the reins on an interim basis following Jose Mourinho’s sacking, things did not begin well for Tottenham, on the pitch or off of it.

Prior to the game, fans had gathered at the stadium to protest against the now-defunct European Super League. And that may well have had an effect on the players. Nevertheless, it was Southampton who took the lead in the 30th minute through Danny Ings.

However, a spirited comeback in the second half saw Gareth Bale, brought back into the fold by Mason, equalise in the 60th minute. Tottenham did go in front not long after but Son Heung-min’s goal was disallowed by the VAR.

However, the South Korean wasn’t to be denied a second time as he stepped up and scored from the penalty spot in the 90th minute to seal the victory for Tottenham Hotspur. The result means we have now moved into sixth place in the table and are two points off of Chelsea in fourth.

Up next for Spurs is the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City at the weekend. But things surely got off to a positive start for Ryan Mason in his first job as a manager. And fans took to social media to react to the result as Tottenham got back to winning ways in the Premier League.
