Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur interested in signing Celtic midfielder Ismaila Soro
A report by Daily Mail mentions that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Celtic man, Ismaila Soro, as he is struggling for gametime in Scotland.
The Bhoys signed Soro from Israeli side Bnei Yehuda in January 2020 for £2.7million. But starts have been tough to come by under manager Neil Lennon.
The defensive midfielder has made just 11 starts in the Scottish Premiership this season and has a goal and an assist in that time. (h/t transfermarkt)
But Tottenham have still not put off in their interest for Soro and they see him as a ‘holding player of talent who could bolster their squad’. He is also just 22 years of age and has a lot of footballing years ahead of him. (h/t Daily Mail)
Spurs chasing Soro
Before his time in Scotland and Israel, he had also plied his trade in Moldova and Belarus. There could, however, be obstacles involved for Spurs if they want to sign the Ivorian.
The report mentions that a work permit could be difficult to obtain and a hearing would have to be organized if Spurs do formalize their interest in Soro. Spurs are assessing a number of transfer targets, of which Soro is one, but will work under a tight budget.
If Soro comes at the right price, then he could be a low-risk signing for Spurs considering he is still young. He would also add depth in the middle of the park and could possibly challenge the current Tottenham midfielders for game time.

But missing out on him would not be the end of the world for Spurs as there does not seem to be a shortage of central midfielders right now. A centre-back, in this regard, should be on top of the club’s transfer wishlist going into the summer.
