Paul Robinson backs Steven Gerrard to become next Tottenham manager
Speaking to Football Insider (h/t The Scotsman), former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has backed Rangers’ manager Steven Gerrard to take over the reins at the north London club.
Tottenham are without a full-time manager currently, following the sacking of Jose Mourinho from the post last month. Ryan Mason has been handed the reins on an interim basis till the end of the season, with the former midfielder winning and losing two each of his first four games in charge.
With the search for a new manager going on with full fervour, Gerrard’s name has popped up as a potential candidate. The former Liverpool captain has been with Rangers for three years and led them to the Scottish Premiership title this season, while playing an attacking brand of football.
While the level from the Scottish Premiership to the Premier League will need a major step up, Robinson is of the belief that Gerrard is the most exciting manager out there for Tottenham Hotspur to consider currently.
“When I look at the list of managers nobody is jumping off the page at me. Where do they go now? The only one that would excite me, and he has not been talked about yet, is Steven Gerrard. I would love to see him there.”
“What he has done at Rangers has been incredible. He is a young, exciting manager who has pull in the transfer market. Yes, Scotland is not anything like the Premier League but I like what he has done there and how he has gone about it. I cannot understand when his name has not come up given the other names that have. I think he would be a great option for Spurs.”

As iterated earlier, Gerrard might not have managerial experience in the Premier League but having spent his entire career in England as a player, he will very much know what it is all about. Plus, his Rangers side fared well in the Europa League as well this term. Could be worth taking a punt for the club.
