PSG open talks to sign Tottenham defender Serge Aurier despite Pochettino concerns

According to French journalist Romain Molina (h/t Express), French champions PSG have opened talks with Tottenham for the £8.5m signing of Serge Aurier, despite manager Mauricio Pochettino not being convinced of a deal.

Aurier has been with Tottenham since 2017, having signed from PSG but has never quite convinced enough to become an undisputed starter for Tottenham. Having been behind Kieran Trippier in the pecking order in his first two years at the club, he was the first-choice last season but failed to impress, prompting the club to sign Matt Doherty.

However, with the Irishman proving to be a dud, Aurier remained the preferred option at right-back this term. And even though there have been some positive displays every now and then, the 28-year-old remains a liability for Spurs. Nevertheless, PSG are said to be keen on signing him this summer and have already opened talks with Tottenham over the possibility of a move. (h/t Express)

Aurier spent three years with PSG prior to his transfer to Tottenham, having joined Les Parisiens form Toulouse, initially on loan in 2014 before the move was made permanent a year later.

Club director Leonardo is keen on bringing the Ivorian back to Parc dec Princes this summer but an idea of a reunion hasn’t convinced manager Pochettino. The Argentine was in charge when Tottenham signed Aurier and continued to prefer Trippier ahead of him. (h/t Express)

Aurier is entering the final year of his contract with Tottenham and is staring at an uncertain future. He has previously spoken of his desire to return to PSG at some point. And with the club also now wanting to facilitate a return, there could be a good chance that a move does end up seeing the light of the day.
