Transfer News: Tottenham joined by Arsenal in the race for Ben White

According to transfer news from the Mirror, Arsenal have joined arch-rivals Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United in the race to sign Ben White from Brighton & Hove Albion.

A product of the Seagulls youth academy, White shot to fame during the 2019/20 season, when he helped Leeds United earn promotion to the Premier League while on loan with a series of stunning displays.

Back at Brighton last summer, White signed a new contract with the Seagulls and continued in a similar vein of form, establishing himself as one of the brightest young defenders in the Premier League. His performances have been rewarded with the call-up to the England national team for the UEFA Euro 2020, albeit as a replacement for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Primarily a centre-back, White’s ability to play in a four-person defence or a three-man backline and even fill in at right-back or central midfield when needed has alerted scouts in the Premier League.

Indeed, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United have been in the race to sign White for some time now, with Arsenal also now said to have thrown their hat in the ring for the 23-year-old, who is valued at £50m.

Someone like White can prove to a beneficial addition for Tottenham ahead of next season. As things stand, Toby Alderweireld has started to show signs of slowing down while Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez hardly offering any sort of consistency.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

With Joe Rodon still lacking the exposure and experience at this level, White can be a good long-term signing for Tottenham. However, given the mounting interest in the England international, the club will have to act quickly if they are to land the 23-year-old this summer.
