Watford agree deal to sign Danny Rose after Tottenham release

According to The Athletic, Premier League newbies Watford have reached an agreement to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose on a free transfer.

Tottenham confirmed last month that Rose would be released by the club when his contract expires at the end of June, making the 30-year-old a free agent heading into the summer.

And now, it has been claimed that the veteran English defender could be signing for the Hornets, who have made a swift return to the top-flight after a season in the EFL Championship.

Rose had been with Tottenham since the summer of 2007 when he signed as a teenager from Leeds United. Having grown into a first-team regular at the club, the 30-year-old, in his peak, was one of the best left-backs in the country.

However, fitness issues and fallouts with managers Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho meant that Rose had become an overlooked entity at Tottenham during the past couple of seasons.

In fact, the veteran defender was made to train with the reserves for the entirety of the 2020/21 season and wasn’t even given a first-team kit number. Having been completely frozen out, Rose did not make a single appearance for the senior team in the season gone by but did feature a few times for the reserves.

It now seems like Rose may have found a new club for himself, with Watford reportedly agreeing a deal to sign him up. Despite having not played at this level for a year now, the 30-year-old has plenty left to offer with his experience.

For a Watford team that is returning from the Championship, having someone of his knowledge would come in handy as they aim for survival in the top-flight.
