Tottenham put Ryan Mason on standby for pre-season if new manager not appointed
According to an exclusive report from the Express, Tottenham Hotspur have put former midfielder Ryan Mason on standby to take charge of the pre-season in case a new manager is not named by then.
Tottenham are yet to name a permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho, who was relieved of his managerial duties back in April earlier this year. Following the Portuguese tactician’s axing, it was Mason, who was a coach in the academy at the time, that was handed over the reins of the first-team on an interim basis.
And even though the club failed to win the Carabao Cup under the 29-year-old, there were a few positives towards the end of the season as Spurs finished seventh to clinch a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
The search for a new manager has been going on for over two months now without reaching a resolution. However, an end may be in sight as talks with former Wolves’ boss Nuno Espirito Santo are progressing well.
Nevertheless, Mason, who had returned to his academy duties, has been put on standby, along with Chris Powell and Nigel Gibbs as interim assistants, Michel Form as interim goalkeeping coach, and Ledley King as the first-team assistant, to take charge of preparations for pre-season, in case a new man is not appointed in time. The Tottenham players who are not involved in any international tournaments that are ongoing are due back at the club on July 5 for the pre-season.
