Transfer News: Tottenham ahead of Liverpool in race for Dusan Vlahovic
According to Calciomercato (h/t Daily Star), Tottenham Hotspur have moved ahead of Premier League rivals Liverpool in the race to sign Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic.
The 21-year-old joined Serie A side Fiorentina from Serbian outfit Partizan Belgrade as a teenager in 2018. Having slowly risen to prominence at the club, Vlahovic is now the first-choice centre-forward at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
In the 2020/21 term, Vlahovic managed an impressive return of 21 goals and two assists from 37 matches in Serie A. The youngster’s exploits with La Viola has now led to interest from a host of clubs including Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
Tottenham are in the need of a new centre-forward as Carlos Vinicius’ loan deal has run out, leaving Harry Kane without any backup. Furthermore, the England captain’s own future is uncertain with Manchester City keen on signing him this summer transfer window. (h/t Sky Sports)
Vlahovic, to that end, would be a fine addition to the ranks at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. At 21, the young Serbian has room to improve and develop further and can be groomed under the guidance of Kane, should he end up staying at the club.
And, it is now being claimed that Tottenham are ‘closing in’ on Vlahovic, overtaking Liverpool in the transfer race. This is because Spurs’ newly-appointed managing director of football, Fabio Paratici has held talks with Fiorentina over a deal, giving the club an upper hand in his pursuit. (h/t Daily Star)

Vlahovic is contracted with Fiorentina till the summer of 2023. It now remains to be seen if there is any substance to these claims and whether, indeed, Tottenham have taken a lead in the race for the 21-year-old. If signed, he has the potential to be a star addition for years to come.
