Tottenham defender Joe Rodon a transfer target for Brighton & Hove Albion

According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon has emerged as a target for fellow Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion in the ongoing transfer window.

Rodon arrived at Tottenham Hotspur only last summer from EFL Championship outfit Swansea City. The 23-year-old defender, though, did not feature much during the course of his debut season be it under Jose Mourinho or caretaker manager Ryan Mason.

Indeed, Rodon managed just 14 appearances in his maiden campaign with Tottenham, out of which only eight were starts in the Premier League. The Welshman, however, largely impressed whenever he was given a chance, even if it was sparingly.

After a difficult season, the 23-year-old impressed at the UEFA Euro 2020 with the Wales national team, though, emerging as one of their better players in a campaign that lasted till the Round of 16. And now, Brighton & Hove Albion have expressed an interest in signing Rodon ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Rodon is someone that the Seagulls manager, Graham Potter, knows very well. After all, it was under him that the defender became a regular in the first-team at Swansea City and grew into a pivotal figure despite injury problems.

And, with Brighton’s main man Ben White being heavily linked with an exit this summer, they are now looking at Rodon as a potential replacement for the England international. (h/t The Sun)

However, any such move looks extremely unlikely as an alternate report from the Express claims that Rodon is set for an increased role in the upcoming season under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, after he made a strong impression behind the scenes during his maiden term.

So, it looks like the Seagulls’ attempt to reunite Potter and Rodon could prove futile in the end.
