Transfer News: Tottenham set to beat Man United in race for Miralem Pjanic

According to transfer news from Express, Tottenham could beat Manchester United in the race for Miralem Pjanic. United have been after the Barcelona midfielder for a while now. But new Spurs’ director Fabio Paratici’s history with Juventus means that he could be key in securing the Bosnian’s signature.

Miralem Pjanic was once regarded as among the best midfielders in Europe. He flourished at sides like Lyon and Roma before making the jump to Juventus. After a highly successful four years in Turin, Pjanic moved to Barcelona in a swap deal. It saw Arthur Melo heading the other way.

However, Pjanic hardly enjoyed his first year in La Liga. He failed to make regular appearances and show his usual skills. On the other hand, Barcelona are in financial turmoil. That has resulted in the club considering the possibility of letting Pjanic leave on a free transfer by terminating his contract.

Paratici, who was in charge of transfers at Juventus when Pjanic arrived at the club, could try to use his connections and seal a deal for the Bosnian. Spurs are looking to revamp their midfield and Paratici’s presence could help in securing Pjanic ahead of Manchester United. They have also been after the midfielder for a while now.

While Pjanic may not be the ideal signing Spurs would want, he is likely to be a bargain deal. Despite being 31 already, he still has those technical qualities Spurs could use. With this being potentially a free transfer should Barcelona terminate his contract, Spurs have little to lose. A short term deal could work for everyone.
