Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona set to compete for Lorenzo Insigne
According to transfer news from Corriere dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona are in contact with the agent of Napoli captain and Italy star Lorenzo Insigne over a summer move.
Insigne has grown into one of the most reliable forwards in Serie A over the years. The 30-year-old has racked up near 400 appearances for Napoli so far, scoring 109 goals and setting up 85 more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Insigne, though, is entering the final year of his £4.3m-a-year contract with the Serie A giants, leading to speculations over his future. Indeed, the Italian international, who has been in fine form at the UEFA Euro 2020 is seeking improved terms on his deal to commit his future to the Partenopei. But with negotiations not going as planned, the forward could be on the move this summer. (h/t Daily Mail)
Tottenham, ever since the appointment of Fabio Paratici as the new managing director of football, have been getting linked with players based in the Serie A quite heavily. And it seems like they are looking at Insigne as a prospective target for the summer, with the report even claiming that they have already made contact with the agents of the Italian attacker.
Tottenham already have their left-wing locked in with Son Heung-min as the preferred option. However, the chance to sign a player of Insigne’s quality, if it presents itself, should not be turned down. The 30-year-old has proven how deadly he can be in the Euros currently and would be a huge asset in case Spurs were to sign him.

Tottenham, though, are not the only club keeping a close watch on Insigne’s situation. Instead, La Liga giants Barcelona are also looking at the 30-year-old and have established contact with his agents as well. So, things might get tricky for Spurs in pursuit of the 30-year-old in case the Catalans decide to firm up on their interest in Insigne.
