Alfie Devine has signed his first-ever professional contract with Tottenham
Tottenham youngster Alfie Devine has signed his first-ever professional contract with the club, as he committed his future to Spurs until 2024. The young midfielder, who recently turned 17, signed for Tottenham from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2020 for a fee that was believed to be in the range of £300,000.
After joining Spurs, he played seven games for the U-18 squad before joining the Premier League 2 squad. The youngster went on to score in his first appearance for the U-23 side against Derby County, after which Devine made headlines for a tackle on Danny Drinkwater against Chelsea’s U-23 side that sparked a scuffle.
In total, Devine made four appearances for Tottenham’s U-23 side while the midfielder was also given some playing time in a friendly against Ipswich Town.
However, the highlight of the youngster’s Tottenham career would have been when he came on at half-time in an FA Cup third-round clash against third-tier side Marine and became the youngest player to appear for Spurs in the club’s history.
Devine broke another record that day as he scored only fifteen minutes after coming on to the pitch and became the youngest goal-scorer in Spurs’ history at 16 years and 163 days.
