Gabriel Barbosa issues his honest opinion of Tottenham
Speaking in an interview with Sun (h/t Football.london), Flamengo striker Gabriel Barbosa has identified Tottenham Hotspur as a ‘mega’ team as the player continues to be linked with a possible move to the London club this summer.
Barbosa’s goal-scoring prowess led to Spurs targeting the player in January as well, and the North London club have rekindled their interest in the player again this summer.
Since Barbosa joined Flamengo from Inter Milan in January last year, the forward has scored 68 goals in 96 games for the Brazilian giants, including 21 goals in 38 games last season that earned him the nickname ‘Gabigol’.
Tottenham have been in the market for a forward this summer which makes sense especially after they chose not to activate Carlos Vinicius’ ‘option to buy’ clause. Additionally, Gareth Bale, who arrived on loan last summer from Real Madrid has also gone back to Spain.
Moreover, there is also a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future of Tottenham forward Harry Kane, with the player hoping to push for a move to Manchester City this summer, while Steven Bergwijn could also leave Spurs for AFC Ajax.
Thus, Tottenham’s interest in Barbosa could be justified as the club do seem to lack an out-and-out centre-forward besides Kane. Barbosa, in turn, has talked about his admiration for the Premier League.
In an interview with The Sun (h/t Football. London) he said:
“I still watch it now. I really like Pep Guardiola’s style at Manchester City, Chelsea managed to form a great team with Thomas Tuchel’s hands. Liverpool have a very interesting team and a fantastic coach. Tottenham is a mega team and I really enjoyed the West Ham season. I’m a big fan of Premier League football.”

Thus, with Barbosa an admirer of the Premier League, Tottenham could provide the forward with a platform to showcase his skill in England, and given the player’s comments, it is not illogical to think that a move could be on the cards this season.
