Fans react as 10-man Tottenham Hotspur lose to Crystal Palace

Tottenham took on Crystal Palace in an early lunchtime kickoff in the Premier League on Saturday. The game turned out to be a cagey and tepid affair with both sides lacking the cutting edge. It was perhaps expected to some extent as both sides were in action after two weeks due to the international break.

Spurs went into the game with a host of changes due to injuries and quarantine issues. It saw Emerson Royal handed his debut while Japhet Tanganga shifted to the centre in place of Davinson Sanchez. Harry Winks also came into the side while any fears over Oliver Skipp’s injury were allayed.

Spurs implode in the second half

It was a rather difficult watch in the first half with neither side but things sparked off in the second. Tanganga squared up against Wilfried Zaha for a confrontation. Both players were shown yellow cards for that. Spurs’ troubles compounded when Tanganga was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Palace looked the more dominant of the two sides as Spurs failed to trouble their hosts. Had it not been for some backs-to-the-wall defending from the likes of Joe Rodon and Sergio Reguilon, Palace could have well taken away the game earlier.

It was simply not Tottenham’s day as Ben Davies came on only for him to concede a penalty by a handball. VAR confirmed the decision and Zaha converted the penalty to give the lead to the home side. Debutant Odsonne Edouard made sure the win was sealed with two more goals for the Eagles.

The loss ends Spurs’ run of three wins and hands them their first L of the season. Fans were visibly unhappy at the meek display from their side as seen on Twitter.
