Barcelona rejected Tottenham Hotspur’s Tanguy Ndombele in deal for Emerson Royal
According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona refused the chance to take Tanguy Ndombele or Serge Aurier in a swap deal for Emerson Royal to Tottenham. Spurs will only pay €25m for Emerson and there are no add-ons in the deal.
Emerson was the last signing for Tottenham in this summer’s transfer window and it was confirmed on deadline day as well. The Brazilian has actually been transferred twice in this =window. Barcelona brought him back from Real Betis only to sell him to Spurs within a month as a part of their cost-cutting.
Hence, the defender became Spurs’ fifth and final signing. No time was wasted in handing Emerson his debut for the club as he lined up against Crystal Palace. The attacking fullback showed good intent while moving forward and but looked shaky on a couple of occasions when Wilfried Zaha took him on.
With his first appearance in the books, there are some details that have been revealed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano from the final deal. It would seem Barcelona turned down the chance to take Tanguy Ndombele or Serge Aurier in a swap for Emerson. They took a fixed fee of €25m without any variables and that was all. It would seem Spurs got the better end of the deal with Emerson being a young and talented defender for a modest price.

Ndombele will have to work his way back into the side while Serge Aurier departed the club after his contract was mutually terminated. Perhaps Barcelona missed a trick there, by not taking the punt on someone like Ndombele. However, given their financial situation, it was unlikely they would have taken on another player’s wages.
