Nuno Espirito Santo urged to give Tanguy Ndombele a chance at Tottenham Hotspur
Speaking on BT Sport (h/t football.london) after Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand urged Nuno Espirito Santo to clear out the situation with Tanguy Ndombele.
The talented French midfielder joined Spurs from Olympique Lyon for a club-record £55million fee back in 2019. But since then, the 24-year-old has struggled to find favour under Jose Mourinho and now, Santo.
Ndombele is said to have asked for a move away from N17 this summer, but ended up staying beyond deadline day as no buyer could be found. Since then, the Frenchman has had positive talks with the former Wolves manager, Nuno. (h/t football.london)
Nevertheless, he hasn’t featured for the club this season far. Despite the club clearly lacking creativity against Crystal Palace on Sunday, Ndombele was an unused substitute on the bench.
Tanguy still without a start
Spurs, a man down after Japhet Tanganga’s 58th-minute red card, went on to lose the game 3-0. Ferdinand, for one, was surprised to see Ndombele unused on the bench and expressed his regret at the situation surrounding the 24-year-old midfielder.
“You look on the bench and you see Ndombele. There’s been moments in the past two seasons where you’re sitting there going, ‘Wow, what a talent’. But he’s never been able to put it together under various managers now.”
The former Manchester United centre-back then wondered what the problem could be between Ndombele and Nuno for such a situation to arise. In that regard, Ferdinand is welcome to join the long list of Spurs fans who would be wondering the same right now.
“You ask: ‘What is the problem here?’ Because they were crying out for creativity from central areas. He’s someone who’s got that in his locker, but for some reason we’re not seeing him out on the pitch.”
