Thomas Tuchel confirms Chelsea talks with Tottenham ace Harry Kane
Speaking to the media ahead of the derby clash between Chelsea and Tottenham, the Blues manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that the club held talks with the representatives of Harry Kane over a summer move. (h/t Irish Independent)
Kane’s future was a topic of major speculation all throughout the summer after the Tottenham superstar made it clear that he wanted to leave the club. Manchester City had emerged as one of the strongest suitors for the England captain, but Chelsea were also said to be in the hunt, although Tuchel has now confirmed that while talks did take place, they never reached advanced stages.
“We never had a list with his name on it and I never went to Marina [Granovskaia] to tell her to buy him. But the club sorted out the situation. There are many people around players – their agents and advisers and people in between, and we had some information from these people, but it was never that close.”
Tuchel, however, went on to add that he was of the belief that Kane would end up signing for Manchester City.
“I thought that this was going to happen. No, I was not scared, but if it would have happened I would have been very interested in how maybe it would have changed Manchester City’s style of playing.”
While their interest in Tottenham never reached advanced stages, Chelsea did end up investing heavily in a new striker, signing Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has made a fine start to life back in London and will carry a major threat to Spurs.
