Nuno Espirito Santo insists he would not swap Harry Kane for Romelu Lukaku
Speaking to the media (h/t Mirror), Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has insisted that he would not swap star striker Harry Kane for in-form Chelsea centre-forward Romelu Lukaku.
The 28-year-old Tottenham superstar had been heavily linked with an exit this summer, with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel admitting that there had been talks held but they were never really close to landing Kane.
Instead, the Blues ended up securing the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan, with the Belgian returning for a second spell at Stamford Bridge in a club-record deal. Kane, meanwhile, decided to stay put at Tottenham, with a move to Manchester City not materialising because of the massive price tag Daniel Levy placed on him. (h/t Mirror)
Since the start of the season, Kane has scored just two times in five games in all competitions, with both of his goals coming in a single match in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Lukaku, meanwhile, has four goals in four games across all competitions.
So, Nuno, ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Chelsea on Sunday, was asked if he would swap Kane for Lukaku, to which he said:
“I don’t even consider that option – it’s something I don’t think about. Harry is an amazing player. His quality and talent have impressed me. Harry has to improve. We are in that process of trying to find the best levels of fitness. But his dedication has been huge.”
🗣"There is one big one, they score decisive goals and love scoring."

Kane has made a slow start to the season, but there is no doubting his quality. Once he gets going in Nuno’s new setup, he will be right up there in the race for the Golden Boot, which he won last term.
