Transfer News: Tottenham receive major boost in pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic
Speaking to violanews.com via Inside Futbol (h/t football.london), Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has claimed that star striker Dusan Vlahovic might not sign a new contract amid interest from Tottenham.
The 21-year-old Vlahovic enjoyed a stunning 2020/21 campaign during which he plundered 21 goals in 37 matches, which put him on the radars of several top clubs over the summer, including Tottenham.
Apart from the Lilywhites, the likes of Juventus, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid were also linked with the giant Serbian. However, a move never materialised as Vlahovic stayed put at Fiorentina and has started the new season in fine form as well.
It had been claimed that the 21-year-old could be set to sign an extension, but that does not seem to be the case anymore, with Commisso insisting that there are no guarantees that Vlahovic will commit his long-term future to the Serie A outfit. (h/t football.london)
“Let’s leave him [Vlahovic] alone, I spoke to him and he is a good guy who is having success. He is a nice thing for Fiorentina, let’s hope he can stay here for a long time. I won’t make promises [about his new contract] that I can’t keep.”
This development should come as good news for Tottenham amid interest in signing Vlahovic. While Harry Kane has stayed put, there is no denying that Spurs need another centre-forward to provide cover to the England captain.

Vlahovic, given his age, can initially be used as a rotation option with Kane before he eventually takes over. There could also be the possibility of the duo playing with each other in a two-pronged strikeforce as well. Any move, however, would have to wait till the summer of next year.
