Arsenal legend Paul Merson aims dig at Tottenham ahead of Chelsea clash

In his column for the Daily Star (h/t football.london), former Arsenal footballer turned pundit, Paul Merson, has aimed a dig at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of their clash against Chelsea.

Tottenham will take on their London rivals Chelsea in a derby on Sunday afternoon. Ahead of the big game between the two Big Six clubs, Merson has claimed that the Lilywhites are miles away from their local rivals when it comes to chances of winning a trophy this season.

“They are a million miles away from competing with Chelsea for trophies this season.”

He further added that Tottenham striker Harry Kane will be full of regret ahead of this game when he sees a number of top players on the Chelsea bench, after his missed Manchester City summer move.

“Chelsea will have a bench full of players Tottenham would kill for this weekend – and that has to hurt Harry Kane. He missed his big chance to move to a top four club this summer and he’ll be playing against one that has gone past Spurs big time in the last few years.

“You look at the subs Chelsea had against Aston Villa the other week – Cesar Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Timo Werner, Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell. They would all get in the Spurs team. N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic weren’t even in the Chelsea squad. If you were Tottenham you would take every single one of those players.”

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Tottenham made a solid start to the new season, but have had hit a rocky road post the international break due to injuries. A defeat to Crystal Palace followed by the draw in the Europa Conference League means Nuno Espirito Santo & co. will be itching to get back to winning ways.

A clash against Chelsea, who are yet to be beaten this season, will be anything but easy. However, the north Londoners have already beaten Manchester City once this season and have what it takes to do it again this time versus Chelsea.
