Jamie Carragher is not sure whether Nuno Espirito Santo is the right fit for Tottenham Hotspur

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football (h/t The Metro), Jamie Carragher raised questions about Nuno Espirito Santo and if he is the right fit for Tottenham Hotspur.

Things seemed bleak at the end of last season for Tottenham after they lost the EFL Cup final, finished 7th in the Premier League, and had Ryan Mason at the helm of things. To add to their worries, Harry Kane was mulling over his future at the club.

However, Daniel Levy kept a firm control over any and all changes. Several managers were targeted by the club, including the likes of Antonio Conte, Gennaro Gattuso, Paulo Fonseca, while former coach Mauricio Pochettino was also considered. However, in the end, Nuno Espirito Santo was appointed.

The Portuguese had just left Wolverhampton Wanderers after finishing 13th last season. Levy, however, put his faith in the 47-year-old and things have not gone to plan. Although they managed to keep Kane at the club, he is yet to score a league goal this season.

Spurs also lost the North London derby recently and are now in the bottom half of the table. Carragher talked about this situation and explained why he feels that Nuno is a good coach but might not be the right fit for Spurs. He told Sky Sports (h/t Metro):

‘I think the Spurs supporters even early on now are thinking: “Is Nuno a Tottenham manager?”…Nuno is a good manager, he proved that at Wolves. What I hope is he’s himself in the job. He’s seen as a pragmatic coach, a defensive coach.

‘Be yourself. However long you stay in the job, at least be yourself. It was almost like that wasn’t his type of team. It doesn’t feel like a perfect fit, I must say that. It almost feels like Jose Mourinho lite.’

Thus, there are several challenging decisions to be made at Tottenham and it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese will remain at the job until the end of the season.
