AC Milan do not want to spend more than €17m to sign Tottenham star Emerson Royal
According to Italian publication Calciomercato, Italian giants AC Milan do not want to spend more than €17m to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal. The north London club are holding out for somewhere close to €25m.
The transfer saga surrounding Emerson and AC Milan has taken a new term. The player has already given the go-ahead for a move to the Serie A club but the two parties are yet to arrive at a middle ground over the fee.
Emerson has been at Tottenham for a few seasons now and in this time, he has established himself as a reliable backup who can be used in multiple positions in defence. However, Pedro Porro is the undoubted starter at the club.
At 25, the player might feel that he needs to start week in and week out for a top club and his desire to leave is understandable. Since his arrival at the N17 from Barcelona, the player has worked on his game extensively and improved as a player.
The aforementioned Calciomercato report have claimed that a deal could be reached between the two parties for a fee of around €20m. That is a decent fee to get for a player who is not a regular starter but Spurs might be pushing for more.
Having purchased Archie Gray from Leeds United, Spurs are more than covered in the right-back region and can afford to part ways with the Brazilian right-back. The North London club have also set their sights on Serie A sensation Michael Kayode.
Should Emerson move the Serie A, he might find himself more comfortable playing in a league that has a lesser spotlight over it. It could also be that he plays in a system that enhances his attacking output and masks his defensive fragilities.
Many Serie A clubs tend to use a back-three in defence which means that the wing-backs have the freedom to move forward and join the attack. Such a setup plays perfectly to Emerson’s strengths.

Right now, it feels like it’s more a question and not if Emerson will leave the N17 this summer. Let’s hope we can wrap this deal up quickly and use the cash to invest elsewhere.
