Injury updates on Tottenham Hotspur trio ahead of Newcastle United clash
Football London has provided an injury update on Tottenham Hotspur trio Ryan Sessegnon, Ben Davies, and Steven Bergwijn ahead of their Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
Tottenham Hotspur had a mixed start but returned to winning ways after recording victories against NS Mura in the UEFA Europa Conference League and Aston Villa in the Premier League before heading out for the International break.
Once that is out of the way Tottenham will face Newcastle United in the Premier League and look to build on their last couple of victories. Leading up to the game, the report provides an injury update on three Spurs’ stars.
Steven Bergwijn
The Dutch international picked up an injury in his Conference League match against Stade Rennais F.C. where he picked up a foot problem. Earlier on Nuno Espirito Santo had explained that the 24-year-old forward incurred a painful injury and also assured that he was doing light training ahead of their London derby against Arsenal.
The Tottenham Boss also mentioned that the Dutch striker’s return date isn’t finalised:
“He has not totally stopped. He is doing some fitness, some upper body. For now, he is not available.”
Ben Davies
Davies had to pull out of Wales’s international squad due to an illness. The absence of such an experienced defender could be a major drawback for the Lilywhites. There has still been no further update on the 28-year-old wing-back’s return date.
“Ben Davies and David Brooks have had to withdraw from the squad due to illness. Brysiwch wella hogia! (get well soon),” read a tweet on the official Wales Twitter account (h/t Football London)
Ryan Sessegnon
The 21-year-old English professional was being linked with a move away from the club in the summer transfer window. The youngster has been out for weeks and would be looking to return to the team as soon as possible.
Santo gave an update about Ryan Sessegnon and Steven Bergwijn early in the season but was unable to put a fixed date on their return to fitness:
“We don’t know [when he will return]. They are improving, day by day.”

Nuno Espirito Santo had a mixed start to life at Tottenham as the Lilywhites have struggled to maintain the consistency with which they started their Premier League campaign. It seems as though the Portuguese is still trying to get the right balance at the club but the absence of these 3 players could certainly be a blow for the former Wolves coach who still doesn’t have a timeframe for the return of these players.
