Tottenham Hotspur could welcome back Steven Bergwijn against Newcastle United
According to Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur could be set to welcome back Steven Bergwijn ahead of their English Premier League clash against Newcastle United later today.
Both teams go into the game with different mindsets. The mood around Newcastle is buoyed by the takeover and could be the beginning of better things to come. Spurs meanwhile have promise but find themselves in the midst of yet another rebuild.
Tottenham are ahead of the Magpies in the footballing pyramid at the moment and it is time to reinforce that fact on the field. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will be keen to make it two wins in a row in front of what will be an electric Tyneside crowd.
Spurs go into the game sans a number of their top stars. Ryan Sessegnon is still out while Ben Davies and more notably Steven Bergwijn have returned to training. The Dutchman’s return will especially be a boost given the overdependence for goals in an out of form Harry Kane.
“He joined us yesterday (Thursday). He is totally integrated with the group. Trained well yesterday, trained well today.”
Bergwijn’s inconsistency remains a major flow. However, the Dutchman is an excellent attacker on his day and is lethal on the counter. Having him back will aid Nuno well at St James Park. Whether or not he will make the cut for the night remains to be seen.
Kane is yet to score in the Premier League this season. The last time he had such a poor run of form to kickstart the campaign was in 2015/16. Ironically however he went on to plunder 25 goals in the remaining games, winning the golden boot.
The Lilywhites need him and it remains to be seen if Kane will kick start his goal bonanza later tonight.

Doubts still remain on whether the Tottenham quartet of Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso, Davinson Sanchez and Emerson Royal will feature. All four players were involved in South American World Cup qualifiers last week. With or without his stars, Nuno will need to ensure he comes back home with all three points in the bag.
