Cesc Fabregas highlights the difference between Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola

In conversation with CBS Sport (h/t Express), Former Premier League star Cesc Fabregas underlined the difference between current Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola.

The 34-year-old AS Monaco midfielder has had the experience of working under the Italian manager during his time at Chelsea. Fabregas came through La Masia and then joined Arsenal where he made a name for himself under Arsene Wenger.

He played more than 300 matches for the Gunners after which he returned to Barcelona where he played 151 matches across all competitions scoring 42 goals and providing 50 assists for the Spanish club.

The Spanish international ultimately made his way to Stamford Bridge after his time with the Catalan giants. He played 198 matches for the Blues across all competitions. Fabregas learn’t from some of the best coaches in the world and highlighted the different tactical approaches that were taken by them.

The former Barcelona midfielder went on to shed light on the kind of determination and instructions that were given under Antonio Conte.

“I think with Antonio [Conte], it was the first time that I’ve seen someone know exactly [what they want]. It was like going to school. I promise you, he will tell you, from the goalkeeper until you have scored a goal, what you have to do, exactly everything.”

The 52-year-old manager has now taken over the reins with the Lilywhites and would be looking to instil the same kind of mentality in them. The North Londoners have had a tough time recently and have struggled to perform consistently ever since teachings the finals of the 2019 UEFA Champions League.

Nuno Espirito Santo was unceremoniously sacked at N-17 and the former Inter Milan manager was called to take charge. He has a tough task on his hands but has already begun to stamp his authority on the club with rigorous training sessions and dietary restrictions.

Fabregas who has played under some world-class coaches also spoke about the difference in coaching methods between Conte and Guardiola:

“I had coaches like Pep [Guardiola] who had a lot of positioning games, but we had freedom inside of this. With Conte, the freedom was non-existent. He was telling me where I had to pass the ball.”

Both of these managers have managed to sustain themselves at an elite level for quite a while now. Conte has also managed to revive clubs in the past. He helped the Nerazzurri win their first Serie A title after 11 years.

The 52-year-old manager would be looking to bring that same kind of mindset and dedication to the North Londoners. The supporters would also be hoping that he can steer the club in the right direction and help them establish a more attacking and intense style of football.
