Injury News: Antonio Conte gives update on Tottenham Hotspur stars Cristiano Romero and Giovani Lo Celso ahead Leeds United encounter
In his pre-match press conference, via Football.London (h/t Leeds Live) Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte ruled out a number of first-team stars due to injury for their Premier League match against Leeds United.
While the international break was a reinvigorating experience for a lot of the players it also handed Conte a headache ahead of the match against the Whites. Cristian Romero picked up a thigh injury in his World Cup qualifying fixture for Argentina against Brazil.
The 23-year-old was slowly starting to cement his place alongside Eric Dier in that Tottenham Hotspur backline. He put in some crucial performances lately and his absence could be a big blow for the Lilywhites
The 52-year-old manager commented on Romero’s injury and highlighted the fact that they still have to assess the full extent of his injury:
“We’ve bad news about Cristian Romero about his injury. I spoke to the doctors and now it’s to wait 7-10 days for another scan to see how long it will take him to recover.”
Giovani Lo Celso played most of the match for La Albiceleste against the Selecao. It is now being believed that the 25-year-old midfielder didn’t make it back to N-17 in the best physical shape which may be a cause for concern for the Italian manager.
Conte spoke about Lo Celso’s current condition. He shed light on the possible unavailability of the Argentine international:
“Giovani Lo Celso didn’t come back perfectly physically, and I don’t know about him if he’s available. Romero isn’t available then there’s the rest of the team.”
The former Inter Milan manager would be looking to bring on a more attacking performance in their upcoming fixture against Leeds. Marcelo Bielsa and his players will be out of the blocks with their intense style and intricate tactical approach.
