Tottenham Hotspur given a huge advantage in their pursuit of Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij
According to Calciomercato (h/t Daily Mail), Inter Milan could let Tottenham Hotspur target Stefan de Vrij leave the club in the upcoming transfer window.
The Dutch professional footballer has been on the radar of the North London club for a while. Antonio Conte worked with the 29-year-old centre-back during his stint with the Nerazzurri as the Italian coach helped them win the Serie A title after 11 years.
It is believed that the Serie A giants have received offers for Milan Skriniar as well as de Vrij. The Milan outfit are willing to offer Skriniar a new contract and would be willing to let go of the Dutch defender in an attempt to lower their wage bill. Newcastle United have also been linked with the 29-year-old centre-back.
The 52-year-old manager was appointed by the Lilywhites earlier in the month. Tottenham have a pretty young backline with Eric Dier being their most experienced central defender at 27.
The addition of an experienced centre-back like Stefan de Vrij would help bring some experience and stability to the back at N-17. The veteran defender has made 139 appearances across all competitions for the Serie A club during which time he has scored eight goals and provided six assists for them.
Conte may feel the urge to make a swoop for the Dutch defender due to the injury scare to Argentine defender Cristian Romero. The 23-year-old was starting to provide a stable presence at the back and his absence could be a big loss to the Lilywhites.
The Italian head coach would still have some time till December to analyze all his options at N-17. This could help him make a more informed decision but it seems as though the former Chelsea manager may be tempted to make a move for de Vrij.
