Transfer News: Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez tipped to join Tottenham Hotspur
In conversation with Give Me Sport (h/t Football.London), journalist Dean Jones has hinted that 24-year-old Serie A forward Lautaro Martinez could join Tottenham Hotspur.
Martinez has enjoyed a great spell recently with the Nerazzurri as well as Argentina. The Milan outfit won the Italian league after a spell of 11 years last season. The 24-year-old also played a crucial role for La Albiceleste as they won the last edition of the Copa América.
The former Racing Club striker has become an instrumental part of the Italian club. He enjoyed a stellar campaign last season when he scored 19 goals and provided 11 assists in 48 appearances for Inter Milan across all competitions.
Jones spoke about Martinez’s current situation and hinted that the Argentine forward could be looking for a move to Tottenham Hotspur:
“He’s [Martinez] got eyes on getting to the Premier League and I think that he would be really interested to join Spurs.”
That being said it would be tough to lure the Argentine forward out of San Siro especially after having signed a new contract with Inter Milan. The new deal saw his salary rise to €6 million ($7m) as compared to his previous wages of $2.9 million/year. It also makes him the highest earner in the club at the moment and keeps him at the club till 2026.
This means that the Lilywhites would have to spend a substantial fee if they are to bring Martinez to N-17. Antonio Conte has worked with the forward during his time at Inter and helped bring out the best in him.
The 52-year-old manager would be hoping to do the same at Spurs. With uncertainty looming around the future of Harry Kane at Tottenham Hotspur, the Argentine forward could be a great addition to the squad. Martinez could compliment the English striker in a healthy manner.
The Nerazzurri may not be very keen on selling one of their most prized asset especially after inking a new deal. That being said the Serie A outfit are in financial trouble having recorded losses of €245.6 million ($284.6m) for the 2020-21 financial year.

The Lilywhites could welcome an exciting addition like Martinez to their squad. He has proven himself under Conte and their duo could work their magic once again even though the Premier League is played at a different level compared to Serie A. With that in mind, it would be fair to say that Fabio Paratici may have to pull off something really special to bring him to the North London club.
